Smith and O'Toole have a lifetime's worth of experience in working for companies and lenders in restructuring and turnaround scenarios. Mr. Smith began his legal career working for a premier debtor boutique firm in Metro Detroit. His experiences included multiple bankruptcies, assignments for the benefit of creditors and out of court workouts. Many of the clients Mr. Smith represented required a lawyer who thought not only from a legal perspective but a business perspective as well. This experience made him a highly qualified professional and an easy choice to run an internal legal department. Over the next several years, Smith & O'Toole combined efforts to restructure and turnaround several dozen entities that were deeply distressed. Many of these acquisitions came from bankruptcy section 363 sales or other court monitored sales.
Smith & O'Toole have the experience, the business acumen and the skill to help distressed companies to formulate a plan back to health and execute the plan. Smith & O'Toole can also help lenders to small and mid-sized distressed companies to effectively assess the cause of the issues beguiling the companies and advise the lenders on the most effective way to protect their investment.
